{"id":3649,"date":"2021-06-07T10:45:43","date_gmt":"2021-06-07T10:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nbs.mw\/test\/?p=3649"},"modified":"2021-07-30T10:49:28","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T10:49:28","slug":"nbs-bank-nico-group-provide-mentors-for-girls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nbs.mw\/test\/nbs-bank-nico-group-provide-mentors-for-girls\/","title":{"rendered":"NBS Bank, NICO Group Provide Mentors for Girls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NBS Bank\u00a0plc\u00a0in partnership with other subsidiary companies in the NICO Group\u00a0have together\u00a0provided a total of 10 mentors, comprising of Managers and Heads of Departments, who will mentor two girls each for a period of one year in a Girls mentorship Programme being championed by First Lady Monica Chakwera, under the Shaping Our Future Foundation (SOFF).<\/p>\n<p>NBS Bank chief Finance Officer Vera Zulu said during the launch of the programme in Phalombe at the weekend that NBS Bank an equal rights employer as evidenced by the 45% of positions in its senior management which are being held by women hence their support towards the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt NBS Bank, we believe that success is equally attainable for the girl child and that the female youth should be encouraged to follow their visions of success both personally and professionally. I was fortunate enough to have great role models along the way that have shaped me to become the woman that I am today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the reason I am personally looking forward to helping our young mentees here to discover their full potential and become the best version of themselves. This is possible and is also made easier with encouragement and good role models. In fact, there is no limit to what you can achieve when you set your mind to it,\u201d explained Zulu.<\/p>\n<p>She said the mentorship experience will help young girls face their challenges head-on and build their self-confidence because the female child can learn from their mentor\u2019s experiences and make more informed choices.<\/p>\n<p>Zulu added that NBS Bank, as a member of the NICO Group will leverage on the group synergies with their sister companies namely NICO General, NICO Asset and Pensions, NICO Life, NICO Technologies and Eris properties to mentor the girls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also look forward to shaping our future bankers, insurers, quantity surveyors, ministers and even presidents through this programme. It is our hope that this programme reaches out to all corners of the country,\u201d said Zulu.<\/p>\n<p>Chakwera, through her\u00a0Shaping Our Future Foundation (SOFF)\u00a0wants to\u00a0accelerate\u00a0interventions in girls\u2019\u00a0education and shape\u00a0the future of Malawi\u2019s young\u00a0girls.<\/p>\n<p>It is a one-on-one program that will last for a period of one year, where each girl child will be assigned to a selected professional female mentor.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the focus areas to be fostered through the program includes goal setting, accountability and academic excellence.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3654\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3654\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3654\" src=\"https:\/\/nbs.mw\/test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/mentors3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"The beneficiaries under the mentorship program in Phalombe pose for a picture with Minister of Education, Hon.
